Islands Fine Burgers & Drinks to Make Hawaii Debut
at Ala Moana Center
Specialty burger restaurant marks move into Hawaii
at Ala Moana Center’s Ho‘okipa Terrace
HONOLULU – Islands Fine Burgers & Drinks, a successful Southern California-based restaurant company, will open its 55th store on February 28 at Ala Moana Center. A full-service restaurant known for affordable specialty hamburgers, tacos, salads and its lively tropical atmosphere, Islands has achieved unprecedented success in the competitive restaurant industry. This will be the first Islands Fine Burgers & Drinks in Hawaii.
“This milestone represents an exciting time for Islands,” says Doug Kollus, president of Islands. “Hawaii is the place where the Islands concept was conceived, and now we bring our focus on quality and service to this dynamic market.”
Islands Restaurants was founded in 1982 with a basic philosophy – serve great, fresh food with friendly service in a fun atmosphere. Founder Tony DeGrazier, who is still the CEO of Islands, had a vision of a restaurant that would recreate the dining experiences he had in the 1960s while stationed in Oahu with his Navy buddies.
Since opening its first store in West Los Angeles, Islands has grown to one of the most popular and recognizable restaurants in the Southern California and Phoenix, Arizona markets. Islands offers a number of top quality, cooked-to-order, specialty burgers as well as large salads, soft tacos, chicken sandwiches, appetizers and desserts. Islands strives to set themselves apart from the competition by never compromising when it comes to the quality of the food they serve. All food preparation, such as the peeling and cutting of their famous Island Fries, is done on a daily basis. For lunch and dinner, Islands’ gourmet burgers are reasonably priced between $7.49 and $8.79.
Islands will be located on the Fourth Level of Ho’okipa Terrace at Ala Moana Center. The restaurant will feature a 500 square foot covered lanai, which will blend Islands’ unique design, indicative of a beachside tiki hut, with the open air character and South Pacific flair of Ala Moana Center. Each Islands Restaurant also features a full bar that specializes in tropical drinks where guests can watch televisions showcasing the latest in surfing, skiing, biking and other sporting events. Their location at Ala Moana Center will have a special selection of exotic drinks, including a Punch Bowl for two. Kids under age 12 also have a wide variety of choices with the “Gremmie Menu” featuring such options as the Junior Wave burger, and Junior Tiki Tenders.
Islands is a privately-held company headquartered in Carlsbad, CA, that has managed growth slowly, with a focus on providing the finest quality fresh food and the best guest experience. Recently, the company has opened successful stores in locations such as Huntington Beach, Roseville, and Summerlin, NV. Over the next few years, Islands plans to open in several more locations throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
