Ala Moana Center Blooms with Fresh Spring Events in April


HONOLULU - Ala Moana Center hosts a new crop of exciting Centertainment events in April, from a lineup of bands and choirs from around the country to a locally produced puppet show.  And, of course the Easter Bunny arrives this month too! 

April 1:   Tickets for the special Honolulu Zoo performances of the live stage show “Wings of the Islands” will go on sale at the Customer Service Center.  From April 1 – 16, Ala Moana Center will include one free keiki ticket with any Easter photo purchase!  Adult tickets are $10; tickets for ages 2 and up $5.

At Centerstage from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., shoppers can join in the fun as Sunshine Generation presents a children’s song and dance performance. 

April 2:  From 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m., students from Riverwood High School Choir and Orchestra in Atlanta, Georgia, will perform for Ala Moana Center shoppers.

Touring Japanese choir Chorus Mizuguki will showcase their vocal talents from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. at Centerstage.

April 3:  Prepare for a rush of rhythm and style as The Steptaculars present a series of tap, jazz and Broadway dance numbers from 12 noon - 12:45 p.m.

April 4:  From Columbus, Ohio, the Worthington Kilbourne High School
Concert Band will delight shoppers with an afternoon choral concert from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Shoppers will enjoy an exciting Brazilian martial arts demonstration from Capoeira Besouro at Centerstage from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.

April 5:  Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, the Lambrick Park Secondary Concert Band will entertain shoppers with musical numbers from 12 noon - 12:45 p.m.

Also, The Young Continentals will present contemporary Christian vocal music for shoppers to enjoy from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

April 6:  The Tenth Avenue Singers from Pasco High School in Washington state will get shoppers up and dancing at they present an array of jazz, pop and gospel numbers at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

April 7:  Stop by Centerstage for an evening of charming music as the Kalakaua Middle School Band and Choir perform from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m

April 8:  Catch a glimpse of the colorful and musical puppet performance “Wings of the Islands” from Ohi‘a Productions at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.  Tickets for the full performance at Honolulu Zoo are on sale at the Customer Service Center through April. 

From 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. students from Minneapolis’ Eastview High School Choir will perform their beautiful repertoire of songs for shoppers.

April 9:  The Hapa Haole Hula Festival takes the stage from 12 noon - 1:30 p.m., featuring a hula and vocal competition plus solo vocal performances by previous winners. 

The Moapa High School Band, from Las Vegas, will fill Centerstage with bright and upbeat melodies from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

April 11:  From 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., shoppers will experience the choral melodies of the Shorecrest High School Choir from Seattle, Washington, as they perform at Centerstage.

April 12:  From British Columbia, the students of the Ballenas Secondary School Concert Band and Concert Choir will perform to the delight of shoppers from 12 noon – 12:45 p.m.

Shoppers will get a taste of Hawaii’s great musical traditions as the Royal Hawaiian Band performs at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Catch a glimpse of the colorful and musical puppet performance “Wings of the Islands” from Ohi‘a Productions at Centerstage from 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.  Tickets for the full performance at Honolulu Zoo are on sale at the Customer Service Center through April. 

April 15:  From 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m., the Iolani Dance Program will feature The Iolani Dance Team showcasing talented student dancers from grades 1 through 12.  The group will perform an array of jazz, hip-hop and lyrical dances for Ala Moana Center shoppers.

Come by for a fashion show featuring the contestants of Mrs. Hawaii 2006.  At Centerstage from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., these beautiful ladies will showcase looks and attire that shoppers can get themselves at Ala Moana Center stores. 

Stick around for a rousing performance by the John Battle Band from Virginia.  This group of high school students will rock shoppers at Centerstage from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.

April 16:  From 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., the Davie County High School Band will show how band music is done in Mocksville, North Carolina.

April 18:  The John F. Kennedy High School Band from California will play their spirited repertoire for the Centerstage audience from 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Experience the dances of the Eskimos as Cupiit Yurartet from Alaska presents a display of northern culture at Centerstage from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.

April 19:  From 12 noon – 12:45 p.m., the Foothill High School Jazz Band from Pleasanton, California, will jazz it up with a variety of swingin’ arrangements.

Stick around for a band performance all the way from Georgia.  The Habersham High School Band will entertain the Centerstage crowd from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. 

From 4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m., the singers of Horlick High School Choir in Illinois will tickle the ears of shoppers at Centerstage.

April 20:  Enjoy an evening of ethereal music as performed by the University of Hawaii Laboratory School Senior Concert String Ensemble at Centertage from 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.

April 21:  From 4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m., the Glen A. Wilson High School Band will light up Centerstage with their bold tones and exciting band music.

April 22:  Check out the grooves of the Central YMCA Dance Central group as they show their hip hop and jazz dance talents at Centerstage from 12 noon – 12:45 p.m.

April 28:  Shoppers will enjoy the music of Pleasant Grove High School Concert Band, visiting from California, as they play at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Students in the jazz and wind ensembles of the Chiefess Kamakahele Middle School Band in Lihue, Kauai, will perform from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. at Centerstage.

Centerstage will dazzle as the dancers of Hawaii State Ballet perform classical and contemporary ballet pieces for shoppers from 7:00 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.

April 29:  Enjoy an afternoon of exciting jazz music as the O‘ahu Jazz Festival features high school bands from throughout the state of Hawaii.  These musical teens will showcase their jazz talents from 12 noon – 6:00 p.m. for the Centerstage audience.

April 30:  From 12 noon - 12:45 p.m., Kapiolani Community College Chorus and Guitar Ensemble will put on a fine display of string and vocal entertainment.

Enjoy the rhythms of the HPU Jazz Ensemble, called the “Six O’Clock Band,” playing from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. at Centerstage. 

Shoppers will enjoy an afternoon performance of Super Keiki as the students of Roy Sakuma Ukulele Studios put on a delightful show from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. at Centerstage.

Continuing: At Centerstage every Sunday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., shoppers will experience a delightful display of aloha with Ala Moana Center's Keiki Hula Show featuring Halau Na Mamo O Ka‘ala and Kanilau. Performance dates this month are April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
