Fun, Festivities and Fireworks Await Shoppers
This July at Ala Moana Center

HONOLULU – School’s out and summer is in full swing this July at Ala Moana Center. This month spend your balmy summer days outdoors, catching some rays at Centerstage taking in a cool variety of live dance and vocal performances. Not sure what to wear when you head back to school later this month? Don’t miss Ala Moana Center’s Back-to-School event, which highlights this year’s trends so students can style their way back to the classroom. Also be sure to celebrate your 4th of July holiday at Ala Moana Center’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular, which will feature a variety of live entertainment around the mall, sales, prize giveaways as well as Hawaii’s largest fireworks display. Centerstage events for this July include: 

July 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29: Every Sunday this June, Ala Moana Center’s Keiki Hula Show graces Centerstage. Stop by from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. as Hawaii’s talented Halau Na Mamo O Ka’ala and Kanilau offer visitors and local residents alike a taste of Hawaii’s unique culture and heritage. 

July 1: Mark your calendar! The Maria Lauer Voice Studio visits Ala Moana Center’s Centerstage from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. as they perform a musical showcase. The children’s chorus consists of keiki ages 7 – 18 and welcomes students from schools across the island. 

Additionally, the Honolulu Community Concert Band will give an electrifying, patriotic concert in celebration of America’s Independence Day. The event will take place at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.  

July 2: This Monday Ala Moana Center helps host the annual Hawaii International Dance Festival. The event will feature the smooth moves of dance groups from around the U.S. – including dance troupes from California, Texas, New Jersey, Alabama and Michigan -- as well as Australia and Canada. This year’s festival runs from 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Centerstage and brings together a variety of talented individuals who all share the common love for dancing. Don’t miss it! 

July 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31: Take a break at Centerstage every Tuesday this month for an entertaining 45-minute performance by the Polynesian Cultural Center. The performance is held from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. and highlights music and dance from the Polynesian cultures of Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Marquesas, New Zealand (Aotearoa) and Fiji. 

July 4: Want to kick off the 4th of July with a bang? Don’t miss out on Ala Moana Center’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. This year’s live entertainment line-up will be hosted by Hawaiian 105 KINE and KCCN FM100 and will highlight musical performances from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Ala Moana Center’s Centerstage. The festivities will then transition to a free outdoor concert at the mall level, makai parking deck fronting Sears, which will take place from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., and will feature well-known local performers including Sean Na’auao and Robi Kahakalau as well as Frank DeLima and Henry Kapono. Also look forward to entertainment by local radio personalities, prize giveaways and much more! Ala Moana Center’s Fourth of July Fireworks will start at 8:30 p.m.

July 6: The TA-DA Dance Company will be a sure hit when they visit Ala Moana Center’s Centerstage this Friday from 6:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. The group from Eugene, Orgeon, will perform a medley of lyrical, street jazz and energetic hip hop dances.  

July 7: The 6th Annual Hula Ho’olauna Aloha Ho’ike, or JALPAK Hula Festival, offers Ala Moana Center shoppers and families the chance to enjoy their annual show from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The event will highlight hula halaus from Japan and Hawaii as well as a number of vocal performances by recognized local entertainers. 

July 11: A local favorite, the Royal Hawaiian Band, will be performing their smooth Hawaiian sounds live at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. The Royal Hawaiian Band is the second oldest and only full-time municipal band in the United States today. Stop by and experience a part of Hawaii’s musical heritage. 

July 13: Stop by Centerstage from 4:00 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. and listen to the harmonic voices of the Franklin High School Madrigal Singers visiting from Pennsylvania. 

July 14: Get down to Centerstage from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. to get a front row seat to the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame Serenaders’ live performance. Shoppers will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of live Hawaiian music and hula by some of Hawaii’s favorite performers.  

July 15: Ala Moana shoppers can attend a show by the Rosalie Woodson Dance Academy from 4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. The performance will feature a number of ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop dance performances by performers ranging from 3 to 60 years of age. 

July 21: Not quite ready to say good-bye to summer? Get one last blast of summer before heading back to school with the Ala Moana Center Teen Concert presented by Oceanic from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The concert, featuring local favorites such as the Opihi Pickers, will also include fashion shows – highlighting a variety of Ala Moana Center merchants – which will showcase cool trends and this season’s styles for what to wear when classes resume later this month. 

July 22: Show your support for members of the Hawaii Dahn Mu Do Team this Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. The student group will hold a demonstration of Dahn Mu Do Martial Arts as well as a drumming exhibition. 

July 26: Stop by Centerstage between 6:00 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. as the University of Hawaii’s Concert Band puts on their annual summer concert performance. These college students will delight shoppers with their jazzy music and catchy tunes. 

July 27: The Hawaii State Ballet will dazzle Ala Moana Center shoppers with a classical and contemporary ballet performance from 7:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. 

July 28: This Saturday from 2:00 p.m. – 2:45 p.m., take pleasure in a dance performance put on by the Iwalani School of Dance. The group will perform a variety of hula, Tahitian and Maori dances.
