Ala Moana Center Moonlight Mele Concert Series Presented in September as part of Aloha Festivals' Events

HONOLULU - This September, ease into fall with a cool, relaxing evening at Ala Moana Center's Centerstage.  Ala Moana Center takes part in Aloha Festivals' celebrations this month by hosting the first annual Moonlight Mele Concert Series, a five-part series featuring a number of local, award-winning entertainers and hula halau every Saturday night throughout September.  Also, cheer on your favorite keiki at this year's Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contest on September 15 and 22.

Centerstage events for this September include:

September 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29:  The Center celebrates Aloha Festivals 2007 with its first annual Ala Moana Center Moonlight Mele Concert Series scheduled to take place every Saturday evening in September from 7:00 p.m. - 9 p.m.  The event will feature various Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning artists.  Bring the family to enjoy great free entertainment and moonlit evenings you won't forget!

In addition, the Center will feature its Moonlight Savings sales event from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. each Saturday evening.  Event-goers will be able to shop to the music and enjoy Center wide savings at participating stores.

September 1:  The first performance of the five-part series will open with Nathan Aweau and also highlights the graceful dance of the local hula halau, Halau I Ka Wekiu.  Na Hoku award-winning performer Raiatea Helm will take the stage for the final act of the evening, performing a variety of songs from her highly-acclaimed albums Sweet & Lovely and Far Away Heaven.

September 8:  Enjoy the second night of Ala Moana Center's Moonlight Mele Concert Series with a relaxing evening of sweet songs and dance by Na Kama and Halau Hula Olana.  Na Hoku award-winning artist Koa'uka caps off the evening with their island style rhythm.

September 15:  Beloved local performing artist Auntie Genoa Keawe and Hoku Zuttermeister and the talented performers of Halau Hula O Kawailiula spread some aloha at Ala Moana Center's Centerstage.

September 22:  Beach 5 and local halau Halau Na Mamo O Pu'uanahulu will delight shoppers with their entertaining song and dance.  And you won't want to miss Keahiwai in concert later in the evening as the two young local performers grace Centerstage with their unique vocals.

September 29:  The final night of Ala Moana Center's Moonlight Mele Concert Series showcases the talent of local artists Maunalua and halau Ka Pa Hula O Ka Lei Lehua.  Also be sure to take a break this evening to take in a performance by renowned and multi-award winning group, Kapena as they wrap up the concert series with yet another memorable performance.

September 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30:  Every Sunday this September, Ala Moana Center's Keiki Hula Show graces Centerstage.  Stop by from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and enjoy the beautiful hula of Halau Na Mamo O Ka'ala, featuring Hawaii's own talented youth, and the music of Kanilau.

September 8: Ala Moana Center helps celebrate Air Force Week's Honolulu Kick-Off at Centerstage from 12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m. The evnet will include a performance by the Air Force Pacific Band - Hawaii, and will feature a formal presentation of Reyn Spooner's Air Force 60th Anniversary Aloha Shirt to the Air Force's General Hester.

September 9:  Swing by Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. and get a front-row seat to a hula performance by Halau Hula O Nawahine.

September 10: Visit Centerstage on Monday for some high-stepping moves by The Steptaculars.  The group will perform a series of tap, jazz and Broadway dance numbers from 12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.

September 12:  The Royal Hawaiian Band makes a regal appearance at Centerstage from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m., performing a variety of songs.  The Royal Hawaiian Band is the second oldest and only full-time municipal band in the United States today.  Stop by and experience a part of Hawaii's musical heritage.

September 14:  The Belly Dancers in Paradise troupe shows off some exciting moves in this upbeat, live performance at Centerstage from 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

September 15:  Think your baby is the healthiest in Hawaii?  This weekend, buff up on your baby talk for the preliminary round of Meadow Gold's Healthy Baby Contest.  The event runs from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. this Saturday at Ala Moana Center's Centerstage.

September 22:  Sneak a peek at Hawaii's healthiest - and cutest - keiki this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. as Ala Moana hosts the finals of Meadow Gold's Healthy Baby Contest.

September 23:  Ipolei Markio Hula Halau, a hula halau from Japan, will showcase their talent for shoppers from 12:00 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.

September 28:  The Hawaii State Ballet will dazzle shoppers with a performance of classical and contemporary ballet from 7:00 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.

September 30:  Na Hula O Kaleiokapualani will be a sure hit at Centerstage this Sunday from 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.  The group will perform a medly of Hawaiian music and hula, and is comprised of performers age 5 and up.
