Ala Moana Center Expansion Update (11/28 - Revised)

Keeaumoku Street to experience temporary lane closures from
December 8 –31, 2006 and full lane closures from January 2 – 12, 2007.

HONOLULU – Drivers are being advised that one-block section of Keeaumoku Street (mauka-bound lanes near Ala Moana Center) between Kona Street and Kapiolani Boulevard will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic from December 8 – 31, 2006 and fully closed from January 2 – 12, 2007.  The schedule of lane closures is as follows:

DECEMBER 8 – 31, 2006
Monday through Thursday
6 a.m. – 12 p.m.             Both lanes closed
12 p.m. – 6 a.m.             Left-hand lane will be open, with right turn access  
                                      onto Kapiolani Boulevard

Friday
6 a.m. – 12 p.m.             Both lanes closed
12 p.m. – 4 p.m.             Left-hand lane will be open, with right turn access
                                      onto Kapiolani Boulevard
4 p.m.                             Both lanes open throughout the weekend

Saturday & Sunday
All Day                           Both lanes open throughout the weekend until 6
                                       a.m. Monday morning (as construction continues)

No Lane Closure Dates 
12/21/06 – 12/27/06       Both lanes open throughout the entire period from
                                       4 p.m. on Thursday, December 21 through 6   
                                       a.m. on Wednesday, December 27 (as
                                       construction continues)

1/1/07                             Both lanes open throughout the entire day until 6
                                       a.m. on Tuesday, January 2 (as construction
                                       continues)

JANUARY 2 – 12, 2007

24-Hour Lane Closure Dates
All Day                           24-hour closure of both mauka-bound lanes from
                                       6 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2 through Tuesday,
                                       January 12.

No entrances to Ala Moana Center will be affected by these lane closures.  However, during the hours when both mauka-bound lanes are closed, Kona Street motorists will be redirected to use Kona Iki Street and Mahukona Street to access Kapiolani Boulevard. Drivers will also be encouraged to use alternate routes onto Ala Moana Boulevard, Piikoi Street and Atkinson Drive when exiting Ala Moana Center. 

The street closures are required as part of the on-going construction for the Ala Moana Center expansion as steel beams will be erected for the construction of Hawaii’s first full-line Nordstrom, Inc. department store, which will open in Spring 2008.
