ALA MOANA CENTER BRINGS GLOBAL
“FASHION’S NIGHT OUT”
CELEBRATION TO HONOLULU ON SEPT. 10, 2009

Ala Moana Center joins the fashion capitals of the world when it brings the inaugural Fashion’s Night Out to Honolulu to celebrate fashion and give consumers something to cheer about.  The event will be held at Ala Moana Center on Sept. 10, 2009 from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. (the eve of New York Fashion Week).  Fashion’s Night Out, an initiative spearheaded by Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg, is headquartered in America’s fashion capital, New York City.  More than 700 retailers and designers in New York City are participating, along with retailers in 11 other countries—including Japan, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. To bring the event to Honolulu, Ala Moana Center had to enlist the support of its retailers, the City & County of Honolulu and Conde Nast Publications.

“By bringing Fashion’s Night Out to Honolulu, Ala Moana Center stakes Hawai‘i’s claim as part of the global fashion landscape,” said Sharon James, regional vice president of marketing for General Growth. “The evening will focus on shopping and the enjoyment that it brings to so many people. More than 50 of our stores are participating, and we’re particularly excited about the charity component with the Hawai‘i Foodbank.”

Fashion’s Night Out at Ala Moana Center will present shopping enthusiasts with trunk shows, in-store events, cocktail parties, gift-with purchase promotions, product demonstrations, live entertainment, an opportunity to support the Hawai‘i Foodbank, a grand prize vacation for two to Lāna‘i, and more.

More than 50 retailers will offer special incentives for shoppers to celebrate fashion. Neiman Marcus will host Art of Fashion and special beauty events. Nordstrom will provide live music and entertainment, special tastings, gift-with-purchases, and sell Fashion’s Night Out T-shirts. Nordstrom, Michael Kors, DKNY, True Religion, Brontibay Paris, Club Monaco, Links of London, Max & Co., Philip Rickard, and Valerie Joseph are just a few of the stores offering gift-with-purchases. Pearl will host the official Fashion’s Night Out after party from 8 p.m.-2 a.m.

Fashion Gives Back
To ensure that an evening of fashion and fun also supports the greater good,Ala Moana Center will host a canned food drive in honor of September’s Hunger Action Month for the Hawai‘i Foodbank. About Fashion’s Night Out
Fashion’s Night Out is a global initiative sponsored by two fashion icons, Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg, who secured support from Vogue Magazine, The City of New York, NYC & Company, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to hold the event in New York.

The concept for Fashion’s Night Out came from Wintour, editor in chief of American Vogue. She enlisted the help of designer Furstenberg, the chair of the CFDA, to rally New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg into supporting the event. Bloomberg agreed, as long as all five boroughs of New York were included. Wintour then gathered the editors of every Vogue edition to spread the event internationally.

Fashion’s Night Out at Ala Moana Center, the only such event in Hawai‘i, helps symbolize Ala Moana Center’s significance as a major contributor to the economy and aims to enliven the consumer spirit.
