ALA MOANA CENTER CELEBRATES FOURTH OF JULY IN STYLE

A summer celebration of shopping, entertainment and Hawaii’s largest fireworks spectacular

HONOLULU — Ala Moana Center –– one of the world’s largest open-air shopping malls –– is preparing to celebrate the Fourth of July in grand fashion, complete with sales events, live entertainment and a sensational fireworks show.  Events and festivities begin as soon as the Center opens at 10 a.m., and culminate with Hawaii’s biggest fireworks show at 8:30 p.m.

The entire mall will be dressed in Fourth of July fashion –– Centerstage will be decorated in red, white and blue bunting; colored flags, banners, posters and balloons will be scattered throughout the Center, adding to the festive atmosphere –– and, naturally, the national colors will fly on every flagpole.

New summer line displays, product demonstrations and free samplings will take place throughout the Center during the entire Fourth of July weekend, July 4–6 –– inside and in front of participating stores.  Also held throughout the weekend will be a “Salute to the Military Sale” –– a 15 percent discount (good for any single-item purchase) offered by participating stores to United States military personnel, as a way to honor and show appreciation to those who dedicate their lives to protecting our country.

In addition to contests and prize giveaways, Ala Moana’s Centerstage will feature radio broadcasts with KINE-FM 105.1 and KCCN-FM 100.3, as well as live music and entertainment on Friday, including performances by “Kapena,” “Typical Hawaiians,” “Believe” and other performers.  Strolling magicians, balloon artists and other entertainers will delight shoppers throughout the mall.

On Friday, July 4, at 6 p.m., the pre-fireworks show will begin on the parking deck makai (ocean-side) of Sears with live radio remotes from KINE-FM 105.1 and KCCN-FM 100.3 entertaining the audience with local musical guests, prize giveaways and more. Featured entertainers during the pre-fireworks show include “Na Palapalai,” “3 Plus,” “The Next Generation,” “Navy Ceremonial Band,” and “Birthday Bash MVPs” Sean Naauo, Fiji and Robi Kahakalau.   At 8:30 p.m., the festivities will come to a climax with Ala Moana Center’s biggest, most dazzling fireworks display ever –– a phenomenal, 20-minute-long pyrotechnic show featuring thousands of rockets and aerial shells, offshore from Ala Moana Beach.

“Fourth of July at Ala Moana Center will be a dazzling patriotic celebration,” said Sharon James, regional vice president of marketing for General Growth-Hawaii.  “There’ll be something for everyone that weekend. From the time we open all the way till the fireworks spectacular –– for families and friends, visitors and kama‘aina alike –– this will be the Fourth of July event on the island.”

This is the 12th year that General Growth Properties, Ala Moana Center’s merchants, and corporate sponsors Ala Moana Hotel, American Savings Bank, Honolulu Star-Bulletin/MidWeek, Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation and Pepsi have presented this event.

Ala Moana Center is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, Inc.  General Growth Properties is the nation’s second-largest shopping center owner, developer and manager.  General Growth currently has ownership interest in, or management responsibility for, a portfolio of 160 regional shopping malls in 39 states.  The company portfolio totals approximately 140 million square feet of retail space and includes over 16,000 retailers nationwide.  A publicly traded Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), General Growth Properties is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GGP.  For more information on General Growth Properties and its portfolio of malls, please visit the company Web site at www.generalgrowth.com.
